I recently installed an oak hardwood floor in my bedroom. Owing to the fact that the floating installation requires a 1/2" gap around the perimeter of the floor, re-using the original baseboards wasn't an option. I decided to go with oak baseboards finished to match the floor. If possible, I planned to provide some space for running wiring behind the baseboards. At the very least, I needed to provide enough space to hide a single telephone line along one wall.
Originally, I was thinking of using 1x3" oak planks and routing slots in the backside for the wiring. Then I hit on the idea of putting the slot at the top of the boards and covering it with an extra trim piece on top. This would allow new wiring to be added without removing the trim. After thinking about it for a bit, I decided to use some of the extra flooring planks for the baseboards and
